After the decadence of my previous post, I felt like we could do with a big bowl of veggies and some faux-fried bit of protein. After all, one cannot subsist on fried burrata alone. But although my brain is happy to load up on some vitamin D and C via bright and fresh produce, my palette is not always down with this plan. I’ve been craving fried food hard. And it’s not that surprising. It’s a well-established pattern. Once I reach the middle of February, my mind turns to chocolate, candy, and fried foods. I think it’s all Valentine’s Day’s doing, personally. But I consider today’s Oven-Fried Tofu Bowls to be an antidote to these less-than-virtuous cravings. And for that reason, I thought a grain bowl was in order as we head into April and its many showers. So without further ado, allow me to present these Melting Sweet Potato Bowls with Mint Chimichurri.

Have you ever fallen hard for a recipe? You know, a dish that you cannot stop making? I recently fell for a new one and in the year that I’ve known it, I’ve made it six times. And for me, that’s saying a lot. I generally only make recipes once before moving on. I get distracted so easily when it comes to food. I’m not particularly good at following recipes either, I can’t help but riff. Yet another side effect of my short culinary attention span. But last year I made Pups with Chopsticks’ Peking Chicken recipe and I was instantly smitten. I didn’t even pause to riff. I just made it. But then I made it again and again and finally the riffing started. These Lacquered Sesame Chicken Bowls with Asian Pear are the result of that riffing.
