Today’s recipe is a pretty piece of fusion. Yes, I know, what a surprise. This Lobster Curry Noodle Soup is yet another product of simultaneously food cravings. In this case, my brain zeroed in on the seafood chowder of my youth and curry laksa. To my mind, this is almost poetic. The chowder is a taste of my childhood, while the laksa represents all the dishes I was introduced to when I moved to Toronto. My past and present are contained in this soup. But that’s not particularly important to you. What is important to you is how this soup tastes. And I can assure you, it is beyond divine.

I don’t know nor understand the origins of Taco Tuesday. Is it merely a product of convenient alliteration strung together by a marketing executive and disseminated through the public consciousness via adverts for taco kits? Or was it an established social norm, absorbed by the Internet and subsequently advertising firms? Basically, it’s a classic chicken or the egg paradox. We may never know how Taco Tuesdays became so ingrained in us. And I do mean ingrained. I feel a little guilty for not posting these Seared Haddock Tacos on a Tuesday. How nuts is that?

When I was growing up, fish sticks were among my favorite things in the world. Right up there with KD and Corn Pops. But it’s been a long time since I indulged. Somewhere in my early teens, I lost interest in those golden sticks. I’m sure my long-suffering mother was delighted to see me move on – her freezer-burned nightmare was over. But I still think about those dinners fondly from time to time. I’m convinced they would not thrill me in the same way. But still, the format is compelling – chicken nuggets but make it fish. So my mission was clear, I had to make Grown-Up Fish Sticks and that’s exactly what I did.
