There was a bite in the air this morning and consequently, there will be tea in my cup all day long. Winter no longer feels like some distant nightmare. And this is all fairly jarring considering it’s been plus 20°C for most of the month of October. I’m not a fan of winter, it’s well-documented on this blog. But I do love the cozy season for one reason – the food. I adore dead of winter fare. Mostly because it’s carb-heavy and carb-heavy is my preferred diet. So if I can wrap whatever I’m eating in some kind of bread, I can and I will. And I plan on doing that, without apologies, from here to March…and potentially April and May. I do live in Canada after all. So let’s kick this carb-fest off with these naan-swaddled Tandoori Pumpkin Paneer Wraps.

This is cake without an occasion. I made it for no reason whatsoever. This isn’t like me. I like to bake but I rarely bake without a purpose. And it’s a chocolate cake. Dessert lover or not, I think we can all agree a chocolate cake is worthy of a celebration.

Here in Canada, we just wrapped up Thanksgiving. And now, households across the country have the same problem – an excess of turkey. And while that is one of those good problems to have, I know from personal experience you can eat too many turkey sandwiches. A few days after a major holiday, it’s totally normal to want something that in no way resembles a festive meal. That’s why I like to take what remains of the day and turn it into a dish like these Charred Poblano Turkey Enchiladas.

Today is Canadian Thanksgiving Monday, so you might be wondering why I’m posting a piece about dinner rolls now. Well, I like to think of Canadian Thanksgiving as the kick-off to the holiday season. While it’s true Canada’s Thanksgiving is more or less in the rearview mirror, American Thanksgiving is a little more than a month away. And a mere week after that is Hannukah. And after that, well, I don’t think I have to tell what comes after that. Basically, we have a marathon of feasting ahead, so it’s in your best interest to know your way around a dinner roll. So today, I bring you the latest installment of my ongoing YouTube series Overthinking Classics where we will explore three ways of approaching the classic dinner roll.
