Yesterday was the last day of school here in Ontario. And in spite of not having children myself, I can’t help but be excited. That childhood programming is strong. I get depressed in September and happy in June. My schedule remains the same but the end of June always has an air of freedom to it. And I’d venture to say that I’m not the only one who feels that way. It seems like there are invites to backyard BBQs and Patio shindigs arriving almost daily. Everyone is ready to party. This year’s theme is seafood. In particular seafood from the East Coast of Canada. Every dish features jewels from the Atlantic with the exception of dessert because well, that sounds gross. I will be expanding the menu this year to include a couple of dishes that are ideal for ringing in 2022 as well, so if you’re not a seafood fan, this isn’t going to be a great month for you here. But if you’re a salty dog, like me, welcome to heaven. First up, Fried Oyster Sliders.

Today is Canadian Thanksgiving Monday, so you might be wondering why I’m posting a piece about dinner rolls now. Well, I like to think of Canadian Thanksgiving as the kick-off to the holiday season. While it’s true Canada’s Thanksgiving is more or less in the rearview mirror, American Thanksgiving is a little more than a month away. And a mere week after that is Hannukah. And after that, well, I don’t think I have to tell what comes after that. Basically, we have a marathon of feasting ahead, so it’s in your best interest to know your way around a dinner roll. So today, I bring you the latest installment of my ongoing YouTube series Overthinking Classics where we will explore three ways of approaching the classic dinner roll.
