Every year for the month of December I post a holiday menu centered around a particular theme. Last year was an ode to seafood, which was a celebration of my maritimer roots. This year I’ve decided to look back once again but in a more personal way. This year’s theme is nostalgia. And no, that doesn’t mean I’ll be posting a turkey with all the trimmings, not that there’s anything wrong with that. When I say nostalgia I mean personal nostalgia. Dishes from my past holidays were either memorable one-offs or treats enshrined in family rituals. But of course, this wouldn’t be Rhubarb and Cod if they were faithful recreations. Expect twists galore as always. First up is this Jalapeño Cold Pack with Onion Bagel Chips.
Corn Fritter Breakfast Stacks with Lime Pepper Mayo
Okay, I realize this is the second corn recipe in a row. But how could I resist posting these beauties as soon as possible? Say hello to these Corn Fritter Breakfast Stacks. You’re looking at freshly fried corn fritters slathered with lime pepper mayo and separated by juicy slices of tomato, paper-thin radish petals, and crisp pieces of bacon. And yes, of course, these stacks are finished with a fried egg with perfectly crisp, lacy edges. Sound good? Great! Let’s dive right in!
Smoked Salmon Home Fries w Everything Bagel Spice
Today I bring you brunch. Now, if you’re reading this hot off the presses, you know it’s not exactly an acceptable brunch hour in my time zone. But the thing about Sunday brunch is it happens once a week. And it can happen almost daily when you’re on vacation. So really there’s never a bad time to start planning your next brunch. And I would like to put forward these Smoked Salmon Home Fries as a contender. It has all the hallmarks of a great brunch. Eggs, carbs, and premium protein with a side of cream cheese. What more could you ask for?
Spring Herb Quiche with Burrata
The day I posted a little teaser for this Spring Herb Quiche it snowed. I suppose I was trying to manifest spring through recipe development. But it’s about as effective as you would imagine it to be. But while I can’t control the late April flurries, I can put plenty of green on my table. Oh and buy armfuls of tulips. You have no idea what those blooms mean to Canadians with seasonal affective disorder. Today’s quiche is the perfect way to ease into the season. It’s loaded with fresh herbs and bright refreshing flavors but it also has enough richness to chase the early spring chill away. So let’s dig in.
