It’s been a hot minute since I posted a dessert. Yeah, sorry about that. Hopefully, today’s Bananas Foster Tart will get your sugar levels back where they ought to be and more than make-up for my dessert-related-negligence. I mean, this tart is essentially two desserts in one. There’s the base tart, which is a cardamom-heavy-riff on the classic British egg custard tart. And then there’s the topping – a faithful recreation of Bananas Foster, the quintessential New Orleans dessert rivaled only by the beignet in terms of popularity. So yeah, I’m gonna guess this tart alleviates any lingering feelings of resentment. We cool?

Sometimes food is just for you and your feelings whatever they may be. And today’s Risotto Stuffed Squash with Fried Sage is a prime example of this comfort-forward, hide-from-the-world food. And how do I know this? Well, I’m currently eating the leftovers, hood up, hiding from the world. And it’s every bit as wonderfully pathetic as you’re imagining it to be.

And just like that, it’s Thanksgiving weekend… or at least it is here in good ol’ Canada. Yes, we the north are already neck-deep in turkey season, which means it’s time for my annual rant about turkey. You guys know the drill, I accuse the turkey of being a dry and flavorless bird unworthy of its lofty title as THE holiday banquet bird. But not this year. No, I haven’t had a change of heart but why beat a dead horse or turkey for that matter? You all know where I stand and if you don’t give this a read. Yeah, yeah, I know. The blog has been a little sandwich-heavy lately. Well, I suppose that depends on whether you consider a burger a sandwich. I tend to consider anything consisting of two or more pieces of bread to be a sandwich, open-face or not. But regardless of your preferred definition of the word “sandwich”, today’s Green Goddess Sandwiches with Granny Smith Apples do occupy a similar burger-like space in the culinary universe… or at least my version of it.
